Home Help Slander
Privatisation to blame, not workers!
Following the recent revelations that the Southern Health Trust has received 15 accusations of ‘ill treatment’ by home help workers, Socialist Party representative Pat Lawlor has stated that privatisation is the problem, not workers.
"The vast majority of home helps are dedicated to improving the standard of living of those they care for. The workers are faced with huge workloads, forced upon them by bosses who are only interested in profit, not the quality of care. And they are getting poverty pay in return.”
"In the Southern Trust alone, 30 companies are making money from this vital service. Their drive to make as much profit as possible is the root cause of poor care, not the workers.”
“For DUP MLA Maurice Morrow to posture as a representative of those suffering from a poor service is pure hypocrisy. All the main parties are complicit in the privatisation of this and other vital services, from the Executive down to the Health Trusts. Workers and the community must now fight back to drive these vulture companies out of the health service.”
